SUNDAY 10/22/17; Japan Snap Elections

The polls are open in Japan for the snap election. Prime Minister Abe is expected to retain power despite the growing popularity of the Governor of Tokyo Yuriko Koike that leads the newly-formed Party of Hope. Her popularity fades quickly since she appears more concerned about remaining governor through the 2020 Olympic Games. Of course Abe labels Yuriko Koike as inexperienced and indecisive.

The Kurds complain that US weapons are now turned against them with the Iraqi army seizing control of their region. President Trump supported the Kurds through his election campaign and first few months of his presidency, however, now says he remains neutral on the matter. By saying he is neutral, Trump is standing with the Baghdad government. Iraq may descend into civil war unless the Kurds and Iraqi government can pursue diplomatic talks.
