The Olympics begin in five days as Russian security forces
increase their presence in and around Sochi. China’s PMI drops to 50.5, holding
on to expansion rather than contraction, however, the number is lower than the
previous month and will continue the emerging market negativity come Monday.

The Mount Sinabung volcanic eruptions grow more violent and
deadly. An Indonesian village is completely covered in ash killing 15 with the
death count expected to increase. Thousands of people are dislocated after the
volcano became highly active in September.
