TUESDAY 2/11/14; Fed Chair Yellen Speaks; House Raises Debt Ceiling Limit

The Aussie dollar moves above 0.90 for the first time in one month. The Aussie ASX 200 rises for the fourth consecutive session. The Shanghai is up +0.8% at the highest levels in one month. JPM recommends buying China and is expecting a 20% gain over the next few months. Japan markets are closed for a holiday. Nickel falls on lower China demand. Copper is weak. WTIC crude oil remains above 100.

Ex UBS banker Martin Lack pleads guilty involving tax-evasion services to rich Americans. Barclays bank announces an astonishing 10K to 12K job cuts. A portion of these job cuts were previously announced but the numbers are large nonetheless. Typically a stock would bounce on firings but Barclays drops -2%. The ongoing legal problems with Libor and Forex price fixing scandals, the security breach of client data and now civil action lawsuits developing are dragging the bank lower. The S&P futures are up +6 but immediately drop to +4. Minutes later, at 3:30 AM, the BOJ whacks the yen causing the dollar/yen to jump from .............

To further increase the obscenity, the politicians make a hefty profit today since they are the only ones allowed to legally trade on insider information. The politicians buy calls and go long stocks, as well as staff and underlings, knowing the announcement on the debt ceiling was imminent and would create a strong stock market rally. They are washing down steak dinners tonight with champagne. This is how politicians come to Washington as citizens of average means but leave as millionaires. It is easy to win the bet when you always know the outcome. The Founding Fathers are turning over in their graves. Atlanta, Georgia, prepares for a severe ice storm that will bring the city to a standstill the next couple days negatively impacting business and commerce. The southern US is not equipped to handle ice and snowy weather like the States above the Mason-Dixon Line.
