China’s President Xi reaches a currency agreement with South
Korea which continues to expand the use of the yuan (renminbi) internationally.
The countries agree to boost efforts concerning the direct trading of the Chinese
Yuan and Korean Won. The US Dollar’s global reserve currency status (commodities
such as oil are traded in US Dollars) continues to be slowly and methodically challenged
by the Chinese Yuan as the years move forward.
Argentina is entering debt talks with only three weeks remaining
in the 30-day grace period. The debt-laden nation accuses the US courts of
favoring the hedge funds that won the case. Argentina needs to settle the
dispute and compromise on new terms quickly or the country will be in default
and fall into more economic and social turmoil than already exists.
